Since 1999 · on the Schlachte in Bremen

A former double garage turned into a Bremen institution.

It all started in 1999: Nadine and the founder were looking for a space on the Schlachte – and ended up in a former double garage. Little room, plenty of ideas. The inspiration came from Australia: a bar with a laid-back down-under attitude, born out of a love for Foster's and the feeling that went with it.

Opening day was 6 August 1999. The name is borrowed from Kangaroo Island, Australia's third-largest island – a world of its own, just off the mainland. That's pretty much how the little bar by the river felt back then.

Over the years the garage grew into a venue on two floors with a terrace on the promenade. And the bar grew into a restaurant: today Kangaroo Island stands for Seafood • Grill • Cocktail Bar – fresh fish from the pan, burgers from the grill and cocktails when the evening runs long. What has stayed is the relaxed tone and the wish to send guests home full and happy.

…straight from the pan, since 1999

Come on over.
